It is fairly funny though, about a woman hearing something outside and knowing Santa isn't real, investigating that. One Of Her Best

This is one of Mary Higgins Clark's best books. Although short, it packs action and suspense onto each and every page. The child-hero was terrific--a real boy any of us could identify with. I really cared and I thank the author for that. I just wish Ms. Clark would stop making her female heroines (i.e., the child's mother) so physically gorgeous! Can't we have someone ordinary for a change?

GOOD HOLIDAY READ!

Catherine Dornan appears to have it all--a comfortable lifestyle, a loving husband and two wonderful little boys. Then her physician husband falls ill with a life-threatening illness. The boys' grandmother gives them a St. Christopher medal--that saved her husband's life in World War II--and instructs them to give it to their father, and it will make him well. Although skeptical, Catherine Dornan does as her mother instructs and places the St. Christopher medal in her wallet for safekeeping. Little Brian Dornan however, the youngest of the two boys, is relying on that medal to make his father well again. So when he spots a woman pick up his mother's wallet from off of the ground while at Rockefeller center listening to Christmas carols, he takes off in hot pursuit. Brian has no idea what is waiting for him when he finally catches up with the young woman; and it soon becomes clear to Brian that St. Christopher may save not only his father's life--but perhaps his own.

Silent Night

I loved the novel. It was absolutely prefect. When I read the novel, I couldn't put it down! It keeps you on the edge of your seat through the whole book. Mary Higgins Clark just has a way of keeping you into the novel until you finish one her suspense-filled books. In the novel Silent Night, a lady named Catherine Dornan lost her wallet and her son. Her wallet fall out of her handbag, and her son ran after it. A lady named Cally Hunter stole her wallet and ran with it. However, when Cally got home her bother who is an escape killer, was there waiting for her. Brian, Catherine's son followed Cally home and consequently, Jimmy; Cally's bother, kidnapped him. The only thing Brian Dornan was worried about was getting back to his mother before Christmas and for him to get back the St. Christopher medal to his father, so he can get well. Risking his own life and safety...what a kid! You'll have to read the book to find out how the story ends. In my opinion, all of the characters in the novel are plausible because their actions and reactions are very believable, by how Mary Higgins Clark wrote it. I hope you enjoy the book as much as I did.

I guess I should have read the reviews before I ordered this. It was $10 and that is a lot of money. I can't even read it on my Kindle Fire. There is no way to enlarge the font or the pages. I would like my money back on this one.

This may be an amazing book but I am not able to see it on my Kindle as the font size will not change and the print is extremely small. I contacted Amazon and lo and behold they have been unable to credit this purchase for me. Haven't bought a Kindle book since.

About the Author
JOHN BUNYAN (1628-1688) was born in Elstow, England and started out as a tinker and a soldier. When he began to have religious experiences, he joined a Christian fellowship and began preaching. In 1660 Bunyan was arrested while preaching and imprisoned for twelve years, during which time he wrote several works. He was released after the Declaration of Indulgence of 1672 and became a licensed preacher and pastor but was sent back to prison for six months when the Declaration was canceled in 1673. During that time he wrote his best known classic, The Pilgrim's Progress. His realism and psychological insight as a writer make him a precursor of the modern novelist. It should have been CLEARLY noted in the listing and description that this is NOT the original book. It is EDITED heavily by Rev. Jesse Lyman Hurlbut to "change the words here and there to simpler ones, and to OMIT ALL the conversations and arguments concerning subjects belonging to the field of doctrine." While a children's book would need simplifying, the listing is for the original ADULT book, so I'm really annoyed at this poorly listed item. The original is a true classic with SO MUCH for all of us to learn in regard to walking with God.

About the Author
Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) was one of America's most influential Founding Fathers. He was an author, printer, politician, postmaster, scientist, musician, inventor, statesman, and diplomat. Franklin invented the lightning rod, the Franklin stove, a carriage odometer, and bifocals. He served as President of Pennsylvania (which would be Governor today), United States Minister to France, United States Minister to Sweden, and United States Postmaster General. At 70, he was the oldest signer of the Declaration of Independence. He was a publisher; most famously of Poor Richard's Almanack, which was published from 1732 to 1757. He charted the Gulf Stream in 1770, developed meteorological theories, and, in a letter dated 1772, laid out the earliest known description of a Pro & Con list. Franklin played the violin, harp, and guitar, and was the first chess player known by name in the American colonies. He created one of the first volunteer firefighting companies in America, was instumental in the founding of the University of Pennsylvania, and founded the American Philosophical Society. Franklin biographer Walter Isaacson calls him "the most accomplished American of his age and the most influential in inventing the type of society America would become."

A great read for anyone interested in the founding fathers of the United States. This was a delightful insight into the mind of Benjamin Franklin and the accounts of his experiences before, during, and after the events that lead to the founding of the United States of America.

It can be a little difficult to read at times because of the style of English used from the period. Just be patient and enjoy the insights of one of the more brilliant members of American history.

This volume has an essay or two on Franklin, but it is for the most part a collection of his letters to friends and other correspondents. There is much to learn, and much of interest, in the letters, but we do not have the sequence of correspondence or much of a context, so it is sometimes not easy to follow what Franklin is talking about.

The book has no plot. It is a book of essays.

Get this just for Poe's essay on "The Raven". And the cat essay.

Since it's free, there's really no sense in *not* getting it. But what really makes this a good buy is the essay by Edgar Allan Poe detailing step-by-step how he wrote "The Raven". Get it just for that. The only other item that I thought really shined was an essay about a cat. I've never met a more interesting cat. I hate pets, but I had to read about the cat because the essay was just that good. So, yes, pick this up, but aside from what I've mentioned, don't expect too much from it.
