From the Author
Ever tried climbing out of a window in the middle of the night?  No, neither have I.  The entire Cavendish Mysteries series came from a visit to Derby Gaol.  If you check out the details of Chasing Eliza and Cinders and Ashes, they will give you more information about my terrifying experiences at Derby Gaol.

The series doesn't come to an end with The Gallows Bride.  There is Sir Dunnicliffe to meet, and then we will move on to the Star Elite.  An elite band of fighting men who all have their own mysteries to solve before they can find future happiness.

About the Author
Rebecca currently lives in Leicestershire, England with her three children, two very lazy King Charles Cavalier dogs and her other half.

She is currently working on the fifth book in the Cavendish Mysteries series, and has a children's adventure series being released at the end of April 2013.

When she isn't writing, Rebecca enjoys visiting country houses, fine crochet, reading and growing herbs in her new greenhouse.   With a healthy interest in anything ghostly, Rebecca enjoys reading ghost stories and watching re-runs of popular ghost hunting series on TV.

Talented Storyteller in desperate need of an editor
By Jennie
This is a difficult review to write. The story is original, interesting, and enjoyable. The characters were likable, but imperfect (in a good way, NOT the "too stupid to live" type). I felt the hero and heroine were well matched. The story was a little different from other romances set in this time period, but in a good way. I would give the story four or five stars.

In fairness to others who are considering purchasing this story, I have to warn you about the editing, or lack of it. The editing problems, including some problems with flow and repetitive word choice, would earn this a one or two star rating. Thus, the three star rating.

For example, the beginning is good and grabs you, but during the first scene where Isobel is making her escape she thinks about the events that led up to her making this escape. The transitions between the present (as she's escaping) and the memories (how her maid helped her escape) were very confusing. I found my self going back and trying to figure out what was happening, to whom, and when. By the end of the first chapter, it was sorted out in my mind and I continued on.

For me, the most frustrating punctuation problem involved the lack of commas in dialog involving terms of direct address. In dialog, when a person is speaking directly to another person and uses the other person's name, it should be surrounded by commas.

The old joke is that punctuation saves lives: "Let's eat Grandma!" versus "Let's eat, Grandma!" In this sentence, "Grandma" is the term of direct address. So, there were A LOT of missing commas in this story.

Please note that the author uses British words and spellings (meagre). This didn't bother me at all, but I wanted to mention it.

I also purchased and read the second book (Cinders and Ashes). I would have to give it a similar review: Great story, great characters, needs editing.

If you can ignore these editing problems, please consider giving this story a chance. It really is a great story, and I genuinely liked it. I really wanted to give it more stars, but honestly couldn't.

Ms. King is definitely gifted. I hope she hires an editor to help her.

Ms. King "If you were mine" #1 of series. 3 star for editing issues, 4 for story with 3.5 total
By Dee
This is my first book by this author and I found this as a free read on Amazon. I'm always on the lookout for authors I haven't read before and am glad I found Ms. King. She is an author to watch if you like historical romances with some adventure & mystery. There are no major spoilers here.

I really did like this story and, yes, there were some editing issues throughout the book as people pointed out in their some reviews. I think we are at a time in the self publishing field that we have to accept the learning process of an author that most of us are not used to seeing because of how the business used to work. Even professionally edited and published books can have errors plus they are much more expensive. That being said let's remember the times are changing and to just enjoy reading the imaginations of so many talented people like this one.

For me, the few mistakes were not that hard to overlook and before I was halfway through I hardly even noticed them. I'm able to read, like many, with some missing punctuation and misspelled words such as "too" being written as "to." It didn't take away from the story for me. As for the story itself, as I said, I liked it and it has some missing information on minor characters that others noted in their reviews so I won't re-hash them here. Suffice it to say it has enough important information that those few things didn't ruin the main story. It only left me curious about those secondary characters and what happened to them. The author can easily modify these and leave no unanswered questions in an update. Some events (like what happened to her when she ran away) could be made to flow better simply by moving them to better place in the story. I felt it was written this way to keep the mystery going longer so I went with it. Since this is a series of the same family perhaps some things left without detail here may be answered at a later time? I gave this a 3.5 stars but since it's a decent read and was free when I found it, I rounded up to 4. It seems fair to me based on what I've written here. :-)

The h/h were characters I really liked together and seemed to belong together. I wanted them to beat the bad guys, get together and receive their much deserved hea. Without giving anything away, I was happy with the hea only wishing, perhaps, for an epilogue showing them a year later. The one written was good, just not what I personally wanted or am used to.

I will read the next two & look forward to checking out other future books by this author. I do recommend this for those who love their romance in a different era with adventure & mystery. Happy reading!

If You Were Mine
By M. Napier
Very disappointing. Started out with some hope but became more ridiculous with each page. Hero was believable until the author had him say something along the lines of the truth will out. PLEASE!!!
